Tip of the Month: GET READY FOR THE SPEECH!
Dear students,
Our year is quite over and now it is time for reflecting on how much each of us have done to improve our English. Lots of reading, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, speaking, song activites were developed so that you could understand/learn language in use and develop your linguistic competence. As in any teaching programme, the evaluation is an important procedure which aims at providing a feedback on what your level of English is, how much you have improved and how your English can get much better. The oral evaluation is a part of it.
Your final oral evaluation, as you already know, will be a speech. You should choose a topic of your interest and prepare a "speech" of about 10 minutes in which you will talk about it, share your interest with your classmates providing us with a micro-teaching of your own. You can talk about a band/singer you like, a book you've read, a film you've seen, an interesting article you've read, something related to science or new technologies, a place you've visited, so on and so forth. For instance, I love Gonçalves Dias' poems, especially the ones he wrote to his muse. If I were to prepare a speech, I would talk about his love story, because I´m really fond of love stories. The speech is an opportunity for us to meet you a little more and an oportunity for you to talk about what interests you in another language.
Some important tips:
-
Choose a topic which really inspires you! We feel much more comfortable when talking about something we know.
-
Do not prepare slides with texts. Only pictures, numbers, images.
-
Make sure of the pronunciation of all the words you use previously.
-
Look up at the new words in the dictionary.
-
Rehearse your presention and present it to a classmate you trust before presenting it to the whole class.
-
In case you have any doubts about the speech, you know how to contact me and my assistant Graziele.
The speeches will be on NOVEMBER 3rd.
Best wishes
